OrthoSport Victoria (OSV) is a group of Melbourne orthopedic surgeons each with a sub specialty area of expertise.

Led by Dr Julian Feller an internationally recognized orthopedic surgeon, OrthoSport Surgeons work closely with Doctors, sports physicians and allied health professionals to achieve an appropriate and well balanced management plan for patients. Well known for their work with elite athletes in a wide range of sports OrthoSport Victoria are specialists in achieving the best outcomes for all concerned.

Business Works has been responsible for the implementation and maintenance of all I.T infrastructures for OSV over a number of years during which time we have deployed and maintained a number of different network environments to meet the requirements

With OSV growing to over 45 staff and planning to move into new premises at the Epworth Hospital in Richmond it was decided this would be the ideal time to replace an ageing I.T infrastructure with a leading edge solution that would provide all the requirements of an advanced Specialist Medical Clinic both now and into the future. Ideally a solution within a smaller more structured, energy efficient environment that improved performance and redundancy whilst providing better control and more flexibility for future growth.

Combining the requirements of numerous specialist medical and office applications which included nine (9) individual Medical databases was a challenge. The external communication requirements of OSV’s surgeons who practice at alternative locations and travel extensively meant there were many issues to consider. Limited space available, significant data storage needs, the normal requirements of email and office applications, many different peripherals including scanners, printers as well as the plans to implement both Apple and Windows based Workstations into the environment required a well considered and executed plan

After appropriate consultation and recommendations were put forward it was decided to implement a Multi Server environment utilising VMWare, a virtual platform to provide a strategy that would provide the necessary efficiency of I.T resources required. We were able to eliminate the old one Server one application model and run multiple virtual machines on each physical Server. Besides reducing capital costs by sharing a hardware and operating system environment this ensures all applications in use will perform with the highest availability and performance. This solution also dramatically improves disaster recovery processes, requires less physical space and offers complete confidentially of data without resorting to individual hardware and software infrastructure.

A variety of brands and equipment was used in deploying this solution, Hewlett Packard server hardware, Apple Mac & Mac mini, Apple IPad and Iphone, Cisco, GFI Faxmaker, Zone director wireless network solution just to name a few.

Specialising in small to medium business and the financial affairs of high net wealth individuals our client offers a complete range of accounting and tax services combined with strategic wealth management advice.

Their clients enjoy a high level of personalised service and this depends on reliable and up to date Server, Workstation and application infrastructure combined with a level of customer service from their IT partner to match.

We were happy to be recommended on referral from another client in the same industry we support; initially invited to inspect & audit the systems and make our recommendations.

Advised they were battling ongoing reliability issues with their IT infrastructure that was proving very disruptive to the productivity of the business and staff. Support & advice from their existing IT Partner didn’t seem to be able to solve the problem or offer an economical alternative for a more reliable solution. Business Works made a series of recommendations which were accepted, we were able to quickly stabilize the network reducing downtime from daily to virtually not at all over the first two weeks of our involvement. Intermittently failing backup strategies were also addressed and rectified. A monitoring agent was introduced to the environment reporting potential areas of concern that could be identified and attended to before they became more serious.

As the environment was moving towards replacement age a series of further recommendations have since been made and implemented.

An additional Server resource has been added to separate some of the more resource hungry applications to improve performance and reliability.

This new Server running Microsoft SBS 2011 Premium was installed and configured whilst suitable existing hardware was retained to run specific applications.

Our technicians reduced downtime to zero during business hours s whilst the migration was taking place. Temporary Server environments were created to run on virtual machines, this simplified the migration process greatly whilst reducing the complexity and protected against the impact of lost time if any problems were encountered whilst new hardware was deployed and configured.

In the months since installing this new environment and combined with the introduction of regular network maintenance the Server & Network has provided a 100 % reliable and solution.

This deployment included Hewlett Packard server hardware, Trend worry free business security, MYOB AE Suite, BGL Corporate Suite, Supermate, Quickbooks, Microsoft Office. Also a number of peripheral devices including document scanners, large and small office printers, a number of new workstations, Notebooks configured VPN for remote access etc, I Phones and Blackberry devices.

We currently handle the complete IT requirements for a number of small to medium sized Accounting practices and can offer potential clients considerable experience and familiarity with many of the applications used in this market.
