5 Tips to keep your team Cyber-Safe this Festive Season

As the festive season approaches, it's crucial to be extra vigilant about cybersecurity.

With the increase in online activities during this period, businesses face heightened risks of cyber threats, which can dampen the festive spirit.

Don't let cyber threats be the Grinch that steals your festive joy! Equip your team with the knowledge they need to stay safe online.

1. FOLLOW CALL-BACK PROCEDURE

Implement effective call-back controls including independently sourcing phone numbers, verifying contact information across multiple sources, initiating outbound calls, verifying the identity of third-party representatives, and confirming bank account details with recorded calls and bank statements.

2. MONITOR YOUR ACCOUNTS

Check your online financial accounts regularly for suspicious spending.

3. BE WARY OF OFFERS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE

Buy only from trusted and established online retailers.

4. THINK BEFORE YOU CLICK

Don’t open emails from unknown senders or click on links in suspicious messages.

5. STAFF TRAINING AND AWARENESS

Employees are often the first line of defence. Ensure staff remain vigilant and well trained on cyber threats.

- Poor grammar and spelling errors

- An unfamiliar greeting or salutation

- Requests for login credentials, payment information or sensitive data

- Suspicious or unsolicited attachments

- Inconsistencies in email addresses, links and domain names

- If you’re asked to pay using gift cards, it’s a scam
